A Christmas Letter

Christmas 2006

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings at Christmastime!  As I write this, there are only 20 days left until Christmas and it seems to be fast approaching!  Fortunately I have all of my Christmas shopping done and can sit back, relax, and enjoy the holidays… after our exams are done of course!

Starting January of 2006 Kris became a fulltime student at Algoma University here in Sault Ste. Marie.  He also took some courses through the summer and I have now joined him as a fulltime student myself starting this past September.  Kris is busy working on a double major in history and French, and I am majoring in psychology and taking a minor in fine arts.

After spending the last year looking for work as a counselor here in the Sault, I felt the Lord guiding me to go back and get my degree in psychology as I presently have my diploma for Human Services Counselling from George Brown College.  All the jobs that I am qualified for are just not the type of job I want to have, and I knew that my options were either to go back to school for another three years and be able to enter the workforce at a higher level, or keep looking for work now and spend years working my way up the ladder to a better position.  So I chose to further my education and hopefully that was the right choice!

Kris and I are in a photography course together and have both enjoyed being able to learn more about something that we both love to do… needless to say whenever people come over we are always competing to show off our latest photographs!

In the past year we have had four new additions to the family, of which only one is left!  We had two goldfish – Fleetwood and Mac, one of whom died of natural causes and the other, eaten by another new addition – Lola, who we rescued from the Humane Society just over a month ago!  We also had a lop-eared rabbit named Fennel for about 8 months before we had to put him asleep due to a bacterial infection which was just too much for the little guy to fight off.

Of course we still have our pride and joy – Ellie, who is fuzzier than ever and loving the fresh fallen snow that she plays in!  She looks soooo cute in all of the sweaters that her two grandmas knit for her, but hates wearing them until she gets outside and forgets that she is supposed to be angry with me!  Soon we will be making our weekly Sunday trips to the big sliding hill near our house so little JubJub (that’s Ellie’s nickname!) can have her thrills chasing us down!

Last winter I was given a season pass to Searchmont for Christmas, and this year we were planning on both getting one.  However, they raised their prices and so we have decided to start cross-country skiing together instead.  We are both asking for money for Christmas so that we can buy ski’s and passes to Hiawatha’s ski trails.  Hopefully we will get in shape and spend more time outdoors than we did last winter!  It’s too bad they don’t allow dogs on the trail because Ellie loves being outside in the snow, and she needs to drop a couple pounds too!

All this to say have a merry, fun-filled and relaxing Christmas!  Don’t forget to take time out to stop and smell the cookies baking and the coffee brewing!  May you find a spot in your heart for the Lord Jesus Christ this season, if you haven’t already, as we celebrate the love that he represents and offers us freely.

Merry Christmas,
