Something worth blogging
Some of you may remember the heartless letter to Logitech I posted about sometime ago.
Some time ago, Logitech reduced the functionality of my remote by removing its ability to have channels listed on it. Since there are no numbers on the remote, only a scroll wheel I got really pissed and sent them 3 letters. The first was nice, the second was terse and the third…well it was like Papa Bear. Now today I sent them a final letter asking them what I was supposed to do with my worthless remote. Then, I decided to phone them and talked to a nice lady in Tennessee.
After about 5 minutes of verbal regurgitation about the power of one and fairness and justice in a corporate world she agreed to mail me a brand new 250 Us Dollar remote control.
Remember that story about the starfish? Well this is one starfish who threw that stupid guy on the beach in the ocean and exclaimed: “Hey! I’m suntanning here!!!”

You can read my original post here, and take note that this has been something I’ve been chipping away at for 10 months.

This is the letter I sent today:
Description : Some time ago, Logitech did away with TV listings for Harmony remotes. In its place “Favorite Channels” were introduced. I have had my Harmony 748 for a number of years and have never experienced any difficulty whatsoever with it until Logitech began updating software which didn’t support the first generation of harmony remotes, mainly the 700 series. Harmony is a fantastic product and a terribly good idea but I am endlessly frustrated with the support I have received for my aging remote.
The obvious solution is to purchase a new remote so I can use the updated software without hassle. But, why would somebody further invest their time and money into a company that can’t remain loyal to the first group of people to ever support their idea. I like the 748 beacuse it is simple, having only 17 or so buttons and easy for guests to use and understand. But it’s not the remote I purchased anymore, and doesn’t live up to the promises on the box it came in.
I’ve tried being reasonable with you and got some assistance, I’ve tried being harsh with you and got ignored. Now in some longshot final effort, I’m asking Logitech to live up to the promises of the remote I purchased and remedy the following issues.
1.TV listings are widely available. There should be an option to download and update them to a remote independently of the harmony software. Even just instructions on how to accomplish this would suffice.
2.Favorite channels do not work with my Harmony 748, after updating favorite channels only the “Control Mode” screen is viewable in the watch tv mode.
3.Removing the batteries from my remote to update it is not a workaround, it has become a permanent solution for your company since you’ve had this issue for several releases of your software program.
I don’t think I’m asking alot…just some help. Maybe I’m the last crazy person hanging onto his aging remote with a shred of hope I can use it forever, but if you’re telling me I can’t…shouldn’t you replace it with something new? I’d gladly ship it back to you so you can be done with my emails and have one more happy customer to add to the pool of millions.
Or you can just ignore me again, because what the hell can one person do right?
