From Fearful Symmetry
I wonder if Dan Brown knew so many people, incapable of thinking for themselves would be roped into his fictional retelling of the Jesus years. I don’t suppose it’s very surprising that droves of automatons lined up to buy his book and watch his movie to answer their spiritual questions about Christianity, but what is surprising was that in this line of ignorant off the shelf theologians were the media and a number of government officials.
I personally love the Davinci code…I think it’s a fantastic book with a great movie. For some Christians it’s a piece of propaganda that tears at the core of their faith, but why shouldn’t heathens and the secular world participate in the story of Jesus as well? Even if it’s to butcher it while still recognizing his importance. At the very least, he changed the world, and that’s a fascinating idea for anyone, even TV producers.
What I’m trying to say is that our news media is full of morons who can’t think for themselves and who’s words reflect content flashed before them on a screen. Should the words be wrong or false, they bear no responsibility for the message they convey. Why should they after all? Pretty news casters are there for ratings, not for truth.

what gets me is the cottage industry that has grown up around christian ’subversive’ 2nd century apocrypha, and their respective ‘massive Church coverups’. they treat the gnostic gospels like they were just discovered yesterday and the pope is frantically trying to keep people from reading them. its just absurd. christians have known about these writings since they were written!
now the latest is that james cameron (titanic director) has come out with a ‘documentary’ about how he’s found the burial place of jesus, his wife mary magdalene, and his children. something is seriously wrong when a major hollywood director all of a sudden becomes some sort of authority on ancient history… gee i wonder if he went into his ‘investigation’ having read the davinci code, takers anyone?
the worst thing about this story is that it has been scientifically proven, by chemist at lakehead university, whom cameron sent samples of the ‘coffin’ that the dust from cameron’s jesus coffin is the same as the dust from the ‘james brother of jesus’ coffin (or ossuary) that was exhibited at the ROM last year. only problem with this is that everyone has since found out that the ‘james brother of jesus’ ossuary was a complete FAKE!!! and the ROM admitted it, and the dealer admitted it… but yet cameron is making a movie about how his new discoveries, suspiciously linked to fakes are real? give me a break people.
its such a comfort to know that the uncritical and mediocre minds in mainstream culture will by it hook line and sinker… after all, he made titanic, and that wasn’t a lie…
